An Overview of the Tribe's History
- Cloudy Night becomes the first camp-guard with her brother, Rising Sun, becoming the first field-runner. The two are the first to assign Tribe-cats to be either camp-guards or field-runners, saying that big and strong cats should be trained to fight and guard the camp and smaller, faster cats should be trained to hunt and patrol the territory.
- The Tribe Hidden in Mist was founded by a group of traveling rouges, led by Cloudy Night. Cloudy Night leads the Tribe for many moons before the Clans start appearing. One leaf-bare a group of cats, led by a tom named Echoing Cave, leave the Tribe to go live in the mountains, since the Tribe's territory was getting too crowded to support all the cats in it. Echoing Cave forms CaveClan. The Tribe of Endless Hunting names Cloudy Night's apprentice, Leaping Stag, as the new leader of the Tribe and gives him nine lives. Cloudy Night, enraged by not being chosen as leader, attacks Leaping Stag. The two fight for leadership of the Tribe, and in the end Leaping Stag wins and banishes Cloudy Night.
- Pale Moon finds The Cave of Resting Souls and becomes the first living cat to communicate with StarClan.
- Pale Moon becomes the Tribe's first healer. She takes a she-cat named Wild Flower on as her apprentice.
- Field Poppy of the Tribe and Crescent Moon of ForestClan become mates and have a litter together. Field Mouse, apprentice to the leader of the Tribe and Field Poppy's brother, says that their kits were born in the Tribe and therefor belong in the Tribe, but Crescent Moon demands that they come live in ForestClan. There is a battle fought over the kits, and eventually Birdstar, leader of ForestClan, and Leaping Stag, leader of the Tribe, decide that half the kits will live in ForestClan with their father and the other half will live in the Tribe with their mother. Birdstar and Fox Trot suggest Rule 1 and 1A of The Warrior Code, "Defend your Clan or Tribe, even at the cost of your life. You may have friendships outside your clan or tribe, but your loyalties must remain to your Clan or Tribe, for one day you may meet your friends in battle," and "You may not take a mate from, or have kits with, any cat outside your Clan or Tribe."
- Wilting Rose of Forest Clan is the first Clan-cat to argue that the medicine cats of the clans have a right to visit The Cave of Resting Souls; before this only healers of the Tribe visited The Cave of Resting Souls, since the cave resided on Tribe territory. After some reluctance, the Tribe's leader, Running Wolf, gives the medicine cats of all other clans permission to access The Cave of Resting Souls once a moon.
- Wilting Rose, the ForestClan medicine cat, travels to The Cave of Resting Souls to seek her ancestors on advice on how to treat a serious infection one of the cats in her camp has. While returning to her own camp she is spotted by a Tribe patrol and attacked since it is not the day the medicine cats and Tribe healer had agreed to meet up. Having no knowledge of battle, Wilting Rose is quickly killed by the patrol. Appalled that someone would kill a medicine cat the Tribe's healer, Pale Moon, and her apprentice Wild Flower, convince the leaders that medicine cats should be allowed to visit The Cave of Resting Souls whenever they please and are also allowed to cross over borders whenever they please without being attacked in order to seek out other medicine cats or healers.
- Wild Flower, the apprentice of the healer of the Tribe, moves to ForestClan to become their medicine cat after Tribe-cats kill their medicine cat, Wilting Rose.
- Red Fern, a Tribe Kit-Mother, is the first tribe-cat to give her kits longer names. She mothers: Vine that Creeps up Cliff (Vine), Shard of Broken Ice (Shard), and Pebble that Falls into Stream (Pebble).
- Dew and Lizard, two young kits, are abandoned on the edge of Tribe territory by their mother, an unknown she-cat. The Tribe's medicine cat, Scent of Mountain's Frost (Frost), finds the kittens and brings them back to the Tribe's camp. At first the leader of the Tribe, Sparrow that Glides through Sky (Sparrow), refuses to keep the kits in his camp, not wanting the tribe to feed non-tribe kits. After a heated argument with the Tribe's kit-mothers, Sparrow hesitantly agrees to let Dew, renamed Dew on Morning Grass (Dew), and her brother Lizard, renamed Lizard Resting on Rock (Lizard), stay in the Tribe as long as Frost looked after them. Frost also suggested Rule 11 of The Warrior Code, "No cat can neglect a kit in pain or danger, even if the kit is not from your Clan or Tribe."
- When the Tribe's leader, Sparrow that Glides through Sky (Sparrow) dies his apprentice, a shy and skittish she-cat named Song of Babbling Brook (Song), steps up to take on the position of the Tribe's leader. After two moons of mostly staying in her den and leaving clan decisions up to her medicine cat, Scent of Mountain's Frost (Frost), a field-runner named Lizard Resting on Rock (Lizard) challenges Song and tells her to step down as the Tribe's leader. Song eagerly gives up the position, and Lizard becomes the new leader of the Tribe, and suggests Rule 16A of The Warrior Code "Cats may challenge a weak or cruel leader if their Clan or Tribe is in danger, or if that leadership threatens the Clan or Tribe" He is also the only leader to not being given nine lives by The Tribe of Endless Hunting, since Song could not give back the nine lives she gained when she became leader.
- A disagreement between TideClan's leader, Heronstar, and the leader of the Tribe Hidden in Mist, Lizard Resting on Rock (Lizard), leads to the two groups of cats going to war over Clan/Tribe pride. The war lasts two border skirmishes and three battles, finally stopping when TideClan's medicine cat, Mossfur, gets killed by an unknown warrior/Tribe-cat during battle while trying to save a wounded tribe-cat. After his death Heronstar and Lizard settle their differences and decide it is for the best of both groups of cats if they agree to have peace. Heronstar suggests Rule 12 of The Warrior Code, "An honorable cat does not need to kill other cats to win their battles, unless it is necessary for self-defense."
- Sunstar, the TideClan leader, and Heather that Blooms on Moor (Heather), the Tribe's Leader, get into an argument over the use of the moss that can be found on their shared border. Due to Sunstar's stubbornness and Heather's brash nature this argument eventually led to border skirmish that brought on a battle between TideClan and the Tribe. Old and nearing her final life, Heather sends her apprentice, Howl of Lonely Wolf (Howl), to lead an attack against TideClan. The border patrol that Howl runs into is lead by Fishclaw, TideClan's deputy. TideClan ends up winning the battle, although their deputy, Fishclaw, is killed. Sunstar, who was distraught by the loss of her deputy, decides to try (and successfully) make peace with Heather. While the battle has stopped, there is still tension between the two groups of cats.
