An Overview Of ForestClan's History
- ForestClan was founded by Swooping Owl. Swooping Owl was chosen by StarClan to be the first leader of ForestClan, and was named Owlstar and given nine lives by his fallen kin. He named Bird Song, his oldest daughter, as his deputy and was the first leader to loose all nine of his lives to old age.
- Field Poppy of the Tribe and Crescent Moon of ForestClan become mates and have a litter together. Field Mouse, apprentice to the leader of the Tribe and Field Poppy's brother, says that their kits were born in the Tribe and therefor belong in the Tribe, but Crescent Moon demands that they come live in ForestClan. There is a battle fought over the kits, and eventually Birdstar, leader of ForestClan, and Leaping Stag, leader of the Tribe, decide that half the kits will live in ForestClan with their father and the other half will live in the Tribe with their mother. Birdstar and Leaping Stag suggest Rule 1 and 1A of The Warrior Code: "Defend your Clan or Tribe, even at the cost of your life. You may have friendships outside your Clan or Tribe, but your loyalties must remain to your Clan or Tribe, for one day you may meet your friends in battle," and "You may not take a mate from, or have kits with, a cat outside your Clan or Tribe."
- Wilting Rose becomes ForestClan's first medicine cat. She is the first Clan-cat to argue that the medicine cats of the clans have a right to visit The Cave of Resting Souls; before this only healers of the Tribe visited The Cave of Resting Souls, since the cave resided on Tribe territory. After some reluctance, the Tribe's leader, Running Wolf, gives the medicine cats of all other clans permission to access The Cave of Resting Souls once a moon.
- Wilting Rose travels to The Cave of Resting Souls to seek her ancestors on advice on how to treat a serious infection one of the cats in her camp has. While returning to her own camp she is spotted by a Tribe patrol and attacked, since it is not the day the medicine cats and Tribe healer had agreed to meet up. Having no knowledge of battle, Wilting Rose is quickly killed by the patrol. Appalled that someone would kill a medicine cat the Tribe's healer, Pale Moon, and her apprentice Wild Flower, convince the leaders that medicine cats should be allowed to visit The Cave of Resting Souls whenever they please and are also allowed to cross over borders whenever they please without being attacked in order to seek out other medicine cats or healers.
- Wild Flower, the apprentice of the Tribe's healer, moves to ForestClan to become their medicine cat after their previous medicine cat, Wilting Rose, is killed.
- The first case of green-cough hits ForestClan. The clan's medicine cat, Amberbrook, and her apprentice, Twigwhisker, work day and night to try and find a cure. Finally, Twigwhisker stumbles upon a patch of cat-mint growing near the CaveClan border. The two medicine cats find that this herb quickly gets rid of green-cough in it's early stages (commonly referred to as white-cough), and over time it can help a patient with green-cough as well. They quickly distribute a good amount of this herb to other clans and the tribe as well, knowing everyone in the area have been suffering from this illness. Amberbrook and Twigwhisker suggest Rule 2A of The Warrior Code, "Medicine Cats and healers are allowed to cross any borders without question. Attacking a medicine cat or healer is forbidden, unless it is in self-defense."
- An earthquake causes a rock slide on the CaveClan mountain. A large amount of the debris from the rock slide ends up falling right onto the ForestClan camp. Many cats are buried and killed under all the rocks and debris, including ForestClan's leader, Dappledstar, and her deputy, Redstag. Magpiewing, a young and mature warrior, steps up and takes on the roll of being ForestClan's next leader. Yet, with there only being a handful of living ForestClan cats left, the clan starts to fall apart, and a few younger cats even leave ForestClan in hopes of finding a safe home as a loner. Swallowing her pride, the newly-named Magpiestar and her deputy, an old she-cat named Tawnyowl whose time in the elders den was growing near, asked the other Clans for help. Ripplestar of TideClan sends Ridgewolf, his deputy, and four of his warriors (Goldenfin, Crabfur, Willowcreek, and Hazelfrost) to help them. Coalwhisker, Elkroot, Duststripe, and Newtpaw were sent by Thistlestar of CaveClan. The Tribe Hidden in Mist did not send any cats, but did give ForestClan a large amount of their herb supply. The cats sent to help are given five moons to help get ForestClan back on its feet, and then are too return home to their birth clans. After the five moons if up only Goldenfin, Crabfur, and Elkroot return back to their original clans. The remaining cats stay in ForestClan permanently.
- Willowcreek, a former TideClan cat that moved to ForestClan, sneaks out of the ForestClan cats with her kits in order to show her kits to her kin in TideClan. While crossing the Tribe's territory she is attacked. She and her youngest kit, are killed in the fight. Once made warriors, her remaining kits suggest Rule 2B of The Warrior Code, "While queens and kit-mothers are not allowed to cross over borders, they are not to be attacked if they do. You must peacefully take them back to either your Clan or Tribe, or their Clan or Tribe. Attacking a queen, kit-mother, or any pregnant or nursing cat is taboo."
- After the death of Magpiestar, her deputy Ridgewolf is faced with making the decision to choose a new deputy. He waits until a moon after he is named Ridgestar to do so. He chooses the warrior Lionpounce as his deputy. Tallsky, an experienced ForestClan warrior, strongly objects to Ridgestar's choice. He points out that Lionpounce's last apprentice, Smokepaw, died of green-cough before he could finish his training; and that a warrior who has never fully mentored an apprentice shouldn't be deputy. Ridgestar, agreeing with Tallsky, revokes Lionpounce's status as deputyship and appoints Brackentuft in his place. Tallsky suggests Rule 7 of The Warrior Code, "A cat cannot become deputy without having fully mentored at least one apprentice."
